This survey is designed to help the County and all of the participating jurisdictions to identify concerns about natural hazards affecting the communities within the County, to better understand community needs in reducing risk and loss from such hazards.

2026 Feral Hog Abatement Program Rules

  • Hunters Education required (if applicable) to participate.

    Age Requirements

    Minimum age of hunter education certification is 9 years.
    If you were born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, and you are:

    • Under 9 years of age: You must be accompanied. Accompanied means: By a person (resident or non-resident) who is at least 17, who is licensed to hunt in Texas, who has passed hunter education or is exempt (born before Sept. 2, 1971), and you must be within normal voice control.
    • Age 9 through 16: You must successfully complete a hunter education course or be accompanied.
    • Age 17 and over: You must successfully complete a hunter education course; or purchase a "Hunter Education Deferral" and be accompanied.
      • "Accompanied" means: by a person (resident or non-resident) who is at least 17, who is licensed to hunt in Texas, who has passed hunter education or is exempt (born before Sept. 2, 1971), and you must be within normal voice control.
  • You must attend the Feral Hog educational program offered by Leon County to be eligible to collect the bounty. (see classes below)

  • 2026 Feral Hog educational program classes will be held January 10, 2026, April 11, 2026, July 11, 2026, and October 10, 2026, at 10:00am in the Annex 2 Great Room located at 155 N. Cass, Centerville, Tx 75833

  • Education classes will be $10.00 per person (Cash, Check, or Money Order ONLY)
  • You must complete a W-9 and submit to the County Judge’s Office to be eligible to collect the bounty.

  • Participants will be paid $5.00 per feral hog tail harvested (10 tail minimum). All payments are subject to the availability of funds.

  • The bounty will not be paid to commercial entities.
  • Tails will be collected on the 1st Tuesday of every other month at the Leon County
    Annex 1 building lobby from 5:00pm-6:00pm. (January 6, 2026, March 3, 2026, May 5, 2026, July 7, 2026, September 1, 2026, November 3, 2026)

  • For the health and safety of our participants and volunteers, we will only accept feral hog tails in a sealed, transparent plastic bag with a maximum of 10 tails per bag. Tails must be frozen.
