Position Summary
The Deputy District Clerk supports the operations of the District Clerk's Office by maintaining
official court records, assisting the public, and ensuring accurate processing of legal documents.
This role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and knowledge of court procedures.

Key Responsibilities
• File, index, and maintain civil, criminal, and family court records
• Process legal documents such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and court orders
• Assist attorneys, judges, and the public with records requests and case information
• Collect filing fees and manage payments in accordance with office procedures
• Prepare and issue citations, warrants, and other official court documents
• Maintain docket schedules and assist with court proceedings as needed
• Ensure compliance with state laws, regulations, and recordkeeping standards
• Perform data entry and maintain case management systems
• Provide excellent customer service in person, by phone, and via email

Qualifications
Required:
• High school diploma or GED
• 1-3 years of clerical or administrative experience (legal or court experience preferred)
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and database systems
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
Preferred:
• Experience in a court or legal environment
• Knowledge of court procedures and filing systems

REQUIRED DUTIES:
- Answer and handle 911 calls for service (emergency and non-emergency).
- Answer and direct telephone calls to the proper person on the (non-emergency lines) telephone lines of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
- Be able to communicate over the radio, to dispatch law enforcement officers, emergency medical services, and volunteer fire departments of/or in Leon County, Texas.
- Be a certified telecommunications operator or have the ability to become a certified telecommunications operator by attending schools or by taking online courses.
- You will have to send and process messages over Texas Law Enforcement Network, by confirming and removing wanted persons, stolen vehicles, articles, and administrative messages.
- Be a licensed jailer or could become a licensed jailer by attending schools or by taking online courses. You will monitor the jail, jail intercom, open and close security doors, monitor the security of the jail thru closed circuit television.
- Monitor and log weather conditions for Leon County for National Weather Service.
- And any other duties that the Sheriff deem necessary.

Applicants are responsible for maintaining control of the inmate population and responsible for the care, feeding and housing of the inmates. Jailers must have good communication and writing skills, be able to work in high stress environments and maintain good physical fitness to perform the duties. Jailers must be able to interact professionally with the public and can multi-task when the jail gets busy. Applicants must be able to satisfactorily complete state required jail school and maintain their jail license through in-service training throughout their career. All training is provided at no cost to the applicant. Applicant must pass a state mandated physical, drug test and psychological evaluation at no charge to the applicant before being hired.
